We’re talking nail colour here.  I know, I know, the world is falling apart and I’m spending hours pouring over pages of magazines looking for the latest hues that will inspire this girl to get out of bed in the morning. While for most ladies’ nail color or nail care is an after thought, I’ve developed a serious addiction over the past few years. I’ve been stalking the aisles waiting for the release of the coveted shade of the season. They say that the cosmetic industry benefits from recessions in the economy. “The lipstick effect”, where smaller luxuries are spent in lieu of more expensive purchases such as runway wear and jewelry. Whether or not my affliction with the hunt is coincidental, I’m not here to talk about the psychological effects of a slump in the economy. Onto the love affair.
Summer 08 it was Moon Over Mumbai.

Spring 08

Spring '08

It was the beginning of my love affair with grey nail shades. I searched for three months for this color. Happened to stumble upon it and happened to make my day.

Fall 08 was a trickier situation. The France Collection came out and I found the grey I had been searching for all my life. You Don’t Know Jacques! No, no I’m not scolding, it’s the name of the shade. Absolutely fell in love. Scoured, and I mean turned over every rock and searched high and low on every grocery, boutique and online virtual shelf. Finally, I broke down and ordered on line for a polish that ended up costing more in shipping than the actual bottle itself. I can’t stop wearing it.

You Don't Know Jacques!

My darling of a Man gave me guff for it until he witnessed on three separate occasions the applaud of my nail color choice. I got the last laugh on those days. On the latest occasion, an interior designer friend commented on my choice and even named the collection name and shade! I felt like a queen of nail color for a moment.

For Spring 09 I’m going for a blush on the finger tips look. The time of year always encourages me to put away the black. Time for WHITE! Beige, Nude, Tan, anything mono-chromatic and light. This is where Polar Bare from the Canadian Collection comes into my life. I can’t help but revel in being a girl with this shade adorning my tips. This shade has been discontinued and I am happy to sport the latest non-fad shade. This girl likes to march to the beat of her own drum. To my dismay – sort of – and to continue in my picks of choice nail color – CHANEL has Django as an offering from their own collection.

*sigh. On the rosy side of things- at least I’m in tune with Chanel in color palette, no?

There you have it. A confession I have been keeping to myself all these seasons. I think I’ll be able to live with myself as long as I’ve got Jacque – or my good friend the Polar Bare.

¡2009!

It’s going to be a darling of a year.  An evocative leader is about to take office the day after Martin Luther King Jr. day.  Obama, while not claiming to know all the answers, has a passionate view of where our country needs to go.  Bipartisan hopes are fully fledged.  There is a sense of reality that is finally seeping into our bones.  My generation and younger have been led to believe owning a Cadillac Escalade is a born privilege.  I’m not joking here, I’ve actually had several conversations about this.  It’s back to basics.  Some like to call it budgeting, others say scaling back, I say it’s making the most of what you’ve got.

Aside from the politics, of which I’m obviously a fan, the inspiration of the fashion world has beckoned me back to the writing board.  Subscriptions to Vogue , Elle, Harpers Bazaar, W, The Moment, the Sartorialist , and hours and hours pouring over internet websites and blogs have inspired me to share.  Getting accustomed to being a season ahead in the buying world, for shoes if you remember, has been a crazy adventure.  Finally in sync with this new world I’m ready to give my insights and opinions on the happenings of today.  I may not have the Prada’s of the season yet, but lemme tell you, I’ve got her number and am ready to tell you what I think.

Happy 2009 – Now let’s take on the world.

Save $1,000 in 30 days challenge!

I read a blog called I Will Teach You To Be Rich – it’s a blog on personal finance and personal entrepreneurship.  They discuss all sorts of things based on personal finance. One of my favorites was about the real cost of owning an iphone http://www.iwillteachyoutoberich.com/blog/how-much-an-iphone-will-really-cost-you .

Anyways, Ramit, the blog owner, invited his readers to join a 30 day challenge to save $1,000.  I appreciate the fact he says he will not provide any silly frugality tips like buying frozen O.J. over real juice. Saving a dollar although nice is not the goal, he’s talking about saving some serious cash.

This sounds right up my alley.  I’m super excited and very nervous as I’m sure this is not going to be a cake walk- but around the holidays EVERY penny counts.  I’ve decided to share this gem of information and have placed the address below.

MOVING IN TOGETHER!  Apartment search led to my Lover and me wandering around the neighborhood.    We found the most amazing mid-century design bungalow walking distance to my office and I said “one day I want to live there”.  Went home and saw rental advert posted just 4 hours earlier.  Wrote a lovely letter to property manager and scored! 12 foot floor to roof glass wall, bedroom loft with skylights, a bathtub, and a small stained glass door as you enter.    Summer Plans include listening to MGMT and drinking Chenin Blanc/Viogner blends with my Lover.  Almost 2 (really 3) years later; kisses still as soft as the first in Republic Square Park.  THIS is love.

Ophelia, the dog- now five, will actually be able to bark freely- the shackles of hiding her for the past year will be lifted. Lover accepts her, brings her into bed in the morning. Goes to work with me on a daily basis. She’s beginning to trust; I think that goes for the both of us.

Grooming:  Professional development in the buying field.  Instinctual business although building the tools necessary for advancement.  Solving mathematical solutions never felt so good.  Style never felt so good.

After a few years, renewed my license and driving on the streets of Austin Texas. I still prefer a chauffeur, is that the lady or laziness in me?   Perhaps a bit of both.

Samba, jazz and elevator music lover- still.

These are all very good things.

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” – Marcel Proust

Coming back to Austin Texas.
i never rode public transportation despite l.a. having one of the most comprehensive transportation systems in the west.

new found respect for the l.a. breed. so much work . . . for the rest of your life.

l.a. gave me a sense of losing all of my inhibitions and taking part in my imaginative mind. just do it. create produce it doesn’t matter.
confidence is “the path” of everyone, no way really to explain making it happen while on the road.

still ready for the ocean, much more partial to the country side than i expected.

Hi!

I’m back.  Lot’s happening these days . . .

Got awesome bike as you can see; I call her the White Unicorn- we’ve been clocked at over 20 MPH in Austin, Texas.  We were recently hit by a car!  Dang, I am now an official “cyclist” no more “biker” for me.   Healing still . . .

Was gifted second bike, an ORIGINAL Schwinn My Fair Lady.  Love Boyfriends Mom!

Got awesome job; I’m sitting here crunching numbers for my department- it’s all footwear all day long.  Sample size foot equals lots of great looking shoes for me!  Assistant Footwear Buyer; see, dreams really do come true.

Ophelia the dogs turns 5 this past Friday.

Cooking.  This means alot if you’ve tasted the science experiments I used to make!

And it’s back again to the summer; I miss these lounge-y days.

happy birthday to me!
